Mei Wah Eindhoven receives the national ‘Gezellig’ hospitality label for outstanding warmth and service
EINDHOVEN – Restaurant Mei Wah in Eindhoven has been recognised as the only hospitality venue in North Brabant to receive the new national hospitality label ‘Gezellig’. The award honours venues that excel in personal attention, warm welcomes, and genuine hospitality.
During a festive ceremony in Grolloo (Drenthe), ten establishments across the Netherlands were recognised. Mei Wah stood out for its “hospitality that’s tangible from the very first contact, with staff who truly see their guests and show genuine involvement.”
“For us, hospitality isn’t a trick, it comes naturally,” says Anouk Yuen, who runs Mei Wah together with her family. “We’ve grown up over three generations with the belief that every guest matters – whether you come for a quick lunch or an elaborate dinner. That care for people, that’s our foundation.”
The label ‘Gezellig’ was founded in 2023 by hospitality expert Jeannine Sok and entrepreneur Sven Heijkoop. Their mission: to recognise the people on the floor who make the real difference in experience. Hospitality students conduct mystery visits, focusing not on food but on atmosphere and human connection.
With this new label, Mei Wah can officially call itself ‘Gezellig’ – a title that, according to Anouk Yuen, “perfectly fits who we are: a home where people feel welcome, whether they’ve been coming for thirty years or are visiting for the first time. Being the only restaurant in Brabant to be named ‘Gezellig’ makes us extra proud. It’s a wonderful recognition for our team and for Eindhoven – a city with warmth and hospitality in its DNA.”
